A Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, January 8, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charenton for Mrs. Ouida Melancon Clement, 74, a native of Jeanerette and a longtime resident of Charenton, who passed away Friday, January 7, 2011, at 1:20 a.m. at her home.
Burial followed in the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. Fr. Bill Crumley officiated the services.
Mrs. Ouida is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Lenis J. Clement of Charenton; two sons, Lenis J. Clement, Jr. and his wife, Jeannie, and Scott Clement and his wife, Angie; two daughters, Wanda C. Broussard and her husband, Michael, and Phyllis C. Sedatol and her husband, Henry, Jr., all of Charenton; a sister, Goldie M. Moore and her husband, Gil, of New Iberia; 11 grandchildren, Corey Broussard and his wife, Jesse, Lani B. Gallimore and her husband, Nicholas, Trent Broussard, Kegan Clement, Nata Sedatol, Ashley C. Bajet and her husband, Stephen, Becky Clement, Tonya C. Champagne and her husband, Tedd, Lenis Clement III, Danielle Clement, and Jared Clement; three step-grandchildren, Jude and Jade Latiolais and Dynah Sedatol; and five great grandchildren, Zelda, Saya, Blakeleigh, Evan, and Sophia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Louisa Tabb Melancon; a sister, Jewell Melancon; a brother, Warren Melancon, Jr.; and an infant brother, Reginald Melancon.
A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until Mass time, with the rosary being prayed at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers were Corey Broussard, Lenis Clement III, Trent Broussard, Kegan Clement, Nata Sedatol and Jade Latiolais.
