- King and Queen Krewe de Mystical Waters XII: Drake and Melissa LeBlanc
A celebration of music unique to the Acadian culture filled the Crown Plaza Hotel in Lafayette Saturday night as the Krewe de Mystical Waters Bal Masque XII celebration got under way.
Set to the theme, “Louisiana Saturday Night” — with a Delcambre twist — the night not only included a celebration of the music unique to the culture of the area, but also a tribute to the Acadian ancestors who were exiled from the village of Grand-Pre and made their way to South Louisiana as strong and fun loving people.
King Drake LeBlanc and Queen Melissa LeBlanc reigned over the Krewe de Mystical Waters XI festivities.
The Young Ambassadors, relatives of Krewe members, represented the tragic “Evangeline” and her beloved Gabriel, along with the various Cajun family names that are common to the Acadiana area.
Representing Mr. High Roller and Big Mamou were Anita and Larry Landry.
Members of the royal court provided entertainment in the form of song and dance. The characters they portrayed brought Southern elements, local humor and Cajun flavor to the night.
Members of the royal court introduced were Amanda Thibodeaux, Zydeco Woman; Tammy Gordon, Clean Up Woman; Kristin Vincent, Zydeco Woman; Ches Gordon, Ils Son Parti; Robbie Barras, Opelousas Sostan and Jodi Domingues, Proud Mary.
Other krewe members adding Cajun flavor to the ball were Carl Rogers, Bud Lite; Jean Romero, Jack Daniels; Clay Broussard, Mr. Crown Royal; Clayton Rogers, Jose Cuervo; Tracy Trim, Shrimper Pimper; Moncia Crappell, Ms. Hot Stuff; Tammy Trim, Hurricane Rita and Glenn Crappell, Mr. Hot Stuff.
Adding a little Delcambre flair to the celebration were Mike Corner, The Streak; Amy Corner, Sex on “Holly” Beach; Bess Rogers, Strawberry Daiquiri; Laura Rogers, Senorita Margarita and JoEllen Barras, Boone’s Farm Girl.
Royal Pages attending the king and queen were their children Averi, Payton and Eli LeBlanc.
Cajun guests “Boudreaux and Thibodeaux” and The Streak made appearances. “Boudreaux” portrayed by Brian Campbell and Thibodeaux, portrayed by Scott Saunier added a little Cajun humor to the celebration.
Past royalty and visitors from neighboring krewes joined in the Krewe de Mystical Waters Bal Masque XII celebration.
