Robert Emmit Bohnes Jr. was born in New Iberia on March 6, 1935, to the late Robert Bohnes and Mary Sparrow Bohnes. He passed away at Ochsner Hospital on Friday, April 29, 2011. His educational training was at St. Edward Catholic School in New Iberia, St. Augustine Seminary in Bay St. Louis, Miss., and the Society of the Divine Word Seminary in Techny, Ill. He graduated from Xavier University in 1959.

His teaching career in the New Orleans Public Schools included assignments at Joseph S. Clark and Warren Easton high schools and Samuel J. Green Middle School. After retiring from the public schools, he taught at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and was currently serving as a teacher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 51 years, Alcidie “Elsie” Bohnes; a sister Mary E. Lavine; daughter-in-law Janice Rayford Bohnes; brothers-in-law Luches Lavine and Raymond Delahoussaye; and niece Ardelle Lavine.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include three children Kim Patrice Bohnes (Maurice) of Temple Hills, Md.; Robert E. (Michelle) Bohnes III, Bryans Road, Md.; Michael J. (Janice [deceased]) Bohnes, New Orleans; four grandchildren Bradley de Penis, Sable Bellizan of New Orleans, Robert E. Bohnes IV and Michael A. Bohnes, Bryans Road, Md.; one great-grandchild Bradley Baker; sisters Martha Delahoussaye, New Iberia, and Shirley (Gilbert) Mathieu, Inglewood, Calif.; a brother Neil (Tonikua) Archangel, Loreauville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, faithful friend Barbara Duhe, the St. Joan of Arc school family, numerous loyal friends and former students.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Katharine Drexel (formerly Holy Ghost), 2015 Louisiana Avenue on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 10 a.m. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Interment follows at Mount Olivet, 4000 Norman Meyer.
