DELCAMBRE — Seth Verret’s RBI-single through a drawn-in infield scored Jace Dore from third base with the winning run as the Delcambre Panthers beat Blue Stream Services 7-6 in eight innings Thursday in the championship final of the Summer League season-ending tournament.

Delcambre, which trailed 6-4 as late as the top of the fifth inning, drew to within one run at 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings.

“I know that it’s summer league and I know that it’s not a district game like it will be next year but the main thing is that I wanted my young kids to compete with their young kids,” said Delcambre coach Johnny Trangmar. “I’m just happy.”

Trangmar also said sophomore Hunter Dooley pitched well, throwing all eight innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

He also complimented his hitters.

“Seth Verret went 4-for-4 with the game-winning RBI,” said Trangmar. “Jace’s big hit in the last inning. My kids know that Catholic High is a very good program and has been for many years. Hopefully my kids now think that we can play with them every once in a while.”

Ridge LeBlanc had two hits, while Dylan George and Robert Primeaux each had a hit in the win for Delcambre.

“My kids never gave up,” said Trangmar. “We’ve been notorious for being scrappy and fighting back. If that’s what we are, then that’s what we are.”

Jacob Berard led Catholic High-based Blue Stream with four hits, including a double, Gabe Fusilier added three hits and Cameron Gonsoulin and Tim Worsham each had two hits.

“I told the team that in seven years at Catholic High, I’ve never walked off the field after the last game as a winner,” said Blue Stream coach Tim Comeaux. “We’re hoping to change that one of these years.

“I asked them did we get beat tonight or did we lose the game? We’re not making the plays that we need to be making. We’ve learned a lot in this past month and I think that it’s going to be all for the good.”

Joe Dworaczyk went five innings for Blue Stream and allowed five runs on four hits, Peyton Pharr pitched 12⁄3 innings of relief and Cameron Gonsoulin went 113 innings to take the loss.
