When District 13 Iberia Parish Councilman Larry Richard was asked in a recent story if he has any opposition so far in his re-election bid, he said “there had been no official announcements.” Another candidate vying for the District 13 seat took exception to that answer.
Iberia Parish resident Marty Trahan publicly announced in March that he would seek the seat, he said, and has campaign signs all over the district, he said.

Richard knew it, Trahan said.
Trahan said as a potential public servant he is “dedicated to honest and sincere representation for a better District 13.”
A lifelong community volunteer and member of the Iberia Parish community, Trahan said he plans to make sure parish government is run like a business, that tax dollars are spent properly, to be held accountable and to do what is right for the district, if elected.
Drain-age, roads, equipment, infrastructure, economic development and levee issues are what Trahan lists as some of the most important issues facing the parish.
“I am asking for your support so that I can accept the challenge to serve you and to move Iberia Parish forward in a positive direction during these changing times of financial difficulties,” Trahan said to his potential constituents.
Richard is in his third term and has faced opposition in every election, he said.
