New Iberia resident Larry Rader, 59, recently announced his candidacy for state representative for District 49, which includes rural areas of Iberia and Vermillion parishes.
“This is not a decision I take lightly,” said Rader, a self-employed businessman in the insurance and real estate industries. “The next state representative elected to serve District 49 will have to meet many challenges undreamed of by us here today. Think about the changes we have seen in just the past few years and imagine the changes in store for the near future. Louisiana is indeed at a crossroads. We have an unprecedented opportunity, but the challenges we face are tough and complex.”

Rader said the future of Louisiana’s agriculture, seafood, environment and natural resources are at risk.
“The loss of population in our state continues to burden our tax base creating havoc on our educational system. Indeed, a race for state representative is no small task.” he said. “I have stayed up late many nights weighing the commitment I will have to make, but in the final analysis, the love and respect I have for the citizens of Iberia and Vermillion parishes are worth my best efforts.”
Rader attended Jeanerette Senior High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1971. Upon completion of his military service, he attended the University Of Southwestern Louisiana.
He is a presenter for the Iberia Parish School Board Choice’s Program and an active board member of Iberia Parish Mosquito Abatement Program.
“On Oct. 22, I respectfully ask the citizens of Louisiana District 49 the opportunity to serve as their public servant. In addition, I ask for your prayers and your support,” Rader said.
Rader is running against current District 49 representative Simon Champagne.
