Harvey H. “Puffer” Lourd Jr., 74, passed away Saturday morning, August 20th at 4:50 a.m. in Los Angeles after a long and complex illness.

“Puff” as he was known to all, is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Hopkins “Hop” Lourd Sr. and his mother Clara “Nettie” Freeman Lourd, both lifelong residents of New Iberia.

Puff was a two sport athlete at New Iberia Senior High School, earning multiple letters in baseball and basketball. He attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana after graduating high school. He was a top bowler on six different teams that went on to the state championships.

A lover of the Louisiana way, he was an avid outdoorsman, a committed father, a loyal friend and a devout horseman.

He made his career in the oil business. First, as a night dispatcher for a trucking company, then as a surveyor for Texaco, and finally as president and founder of L&M Specialties, a drilling consultant firm.

Stoic to the end, he is survived by his ex-wife Sherion Brice Lourd; his three sons Bryan W. Lourd and B. Blaine Lourd of Los Angeles, Harvey H. “Tu-Tu” Lourd III of New Iberia; and his daughter Deborah K. Lourd also of New Iberia.

His spirit and his name live on in his grandchildren: Zane M. Viator, Bronwyn T. Viator and W. Hunter Lourd all of New Iberia, Billie C. Lourd, Brice R. Lourd, Cole W. Lourd and Boone W. Lourd, all of Los Angeles. His memory shall live on in his great grandchildren Riley E. Viator and Esme’ R. Badeaux.
