Loreauville ranked sixth

Loreauville remains the lone Teche Area football team ranked in the Top 10 in its classification this week but Catholic High moved within a few votes of 10th place in the Class 2A statewide poll released Monday night by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Loreauville (1-1) is sixth in the Class 2A poll for the second straight week with 67 points. Catholic High (1-1) has 28 points in the poll, trailing No. 10 Calvary (1-1) by only 6 points in the voting by a statewide panel of sportswriters.
Loreauville plays host to Westminster on Friday, while Catholic High opens a six-game homestand with a game against North Vermilion, also on Friday.
New Iberia Senior High (2-0) is the only other area team receiving votes this week. The Yellow Jackets have 7 points in the 5A poll. NISH plays No. 4 Acadiana (1-1) Thursday at Lloyd G. Porter Memorial Stadium.
St. Paul’s (2-0) vaulted past Acadiana into the top spot in Class 5A this week after beating the defending state champion Rams 15-14 on Friday. St. Paul’s has 112 points and five first-place votes, holding off No. 2 Dutchtown (2-0) by a single point and one first-place vote. West Jefferson (2-0) is third with 87 points.
In Class 4A, St. Thomas More (2-0) remains first with nine of 10 first-place votes and 119 total points. Breaux Bridge (2-0), a District 5-4A rival of STM, is second with 109 points.
St. Charles (2-0) has all 10 first-place votes and 120 points to top the 3A poll, while Patterson (1-0) is second with 110 points.
John Curtis (2-0) remains No. 1 in Class 2A following its 27-7 win over Westgate in the Louisiana Superdome last Friday. The Patriots have nine of 10 first-place votes and 118 points. Winnfield (2-0) has the other first-place vote and 111 points.
Ouachita Christian (2-0) moved up from second to first in Class A with a 55-21 win over Rayville. OCHS has nine first-place votes and 119 points. Haynesville (2-0) is second, moving up four spots, while St. Mary’s (2-0) fell from second to third despite a 29-24 win over Jeanerette. White Castle (1-1), ranked No. 1 last week, fell to sixth after its 23-14 loss to Central Catholic (2-0), which jumped from ninth to fifth in the poll.
