Loreauville, CHS move up

The Loreauville Tigers and Catholic High Panthers each moved up a spot in the Class 2A high school football poll this week, setting up a Top 5 matchup Friday at Panther Stadium for the District 6-2A lead.

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association conducts the poll statewide and released its results late Monday.

Loreauville (6-1 overall, 2-0 district) moved up to fourth with a 34-7 win over Delcambre. Catholic High (6-1, 1-0) moved up to sixth with a 57-0 win over Jeanerette.

Tickets for Friday’s game are on sale in advance at both CHS and Loreauville High School. Tickets are the same price as at the gate and are available during school hours in each school’s front office.

The move up for each team was made possible by then-fourth ranked Menard’s 4-6 loss to No. 2 Winnfield last week. Winnfield (7-0) stayed No. 2 in the poll with one first-place vote and 133 total points. John Curtis (7-0) is No. 1 with 11 first-place votes and 143 points. University High (7-0) remained No. 3 and Menard (6-1) plummeted to No. 8. Calvary (5-2) is ninth and Kinder (6-1) 10th.

The top spots in each poll remain unchanged, though some other changes happened in the various classifications.

St. Paul’s (7-0) is No. 1 in Class 5A with 11 first-place votes and 143 total points. Unbeaten Dutchtown (1 first place vote, 130 points), Carencro (7-0) and Byrd (7-0) hold onto their rankings in second through fourth place, but Jesuit (7-0) and West Monroe (5-2) swapped places at 5 and 6, respectively. Rummel (6-0) jumped from ninth to seventh, Acadiana (5-2) remained eighth, Ouachita (5-2) fell from seventh to ninth and Brother Martin (6-1) moved into the Top 10.

In Class 4A, St. Thomas More has 10 first-place votes and 142 points, but Breaux Bridge (6-1) plunged from second to sixth with its 28-7 loss to Teurlings Catholic (4-3), which climbed from eighth to fifth. Neville (7-0) has the other two first-place votes and 133 total points, moving up from second to third, while Assumpion (7-0) and Lutcher (6-1) each climbed a spot in the poll.

Belle Chasse (6-1, St. Augustine (4-3) and McDonogh 35 (4-3) are in eighth through 10th places.

The top four spots in Class 2A are unchanged, led by St. Charles (7-0) with 11 first-place votes and 143 points. Second is Patterson (6-0) with the other first-place vote, followed by Amite (6-1) and Loranger (7-0). Livonia (6-1) dropped from fifth to seventh with a 22-20 loss to Eunice, allowing Richwood (6-1) and Independence (5-2) to each move up one spot. Notre Dame (4-3), Eunice (6-1) and Parkview Baptist (4-3) round out the Top 10.

Ouachita Christian (7-0) is the unanimous No. 1 in Class A, but Haynesville (6-1) and St. Mary’s (6-1) swapped spots to second and third, respectively. Vermilion Catholic (7-0) surged from sixth to fourth, ahead of Elton (7-0) and Central Catholic (6-1). 

Mangham (7-0), Cedar Creek (6-1), West St. John (5-2) and Westminster (5-2) round out the Top 10.쇓
