Patin has worked for the Clerk of Court’s office for the past 35 years. However, recently she was named clerk of court after Allen Blanchard retired and nominated her for the post. Patin has held the job for the past 18 months.

Meanwhile, Soileau loaned his campaign $50,000 of his own money for the race.

Patin said that in her first full term she plans to continue scanning court documents, culling them in St. Martin Parish’s database and making them accessible on the Internet. She said the court has digitized documents dating back 30 years.

“I want to go back as far as I can, even to beginning of (our parish’s founding),” Patin said. “I want to upgrade the office as much as I can.”

Voter turnout was approximately 41 percent, said Tricia Hammon, supervisor of elections for St. Martin Parish.
