Cinnamon-Candy Apples

6 medium apples
1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons lemon juice, or 1 tablespoons vinegar and 1 tablespoon water
1 cup water (more water may be added if a thinner syrup is desired)
1/2 cup red cinnamon candies
Pare, quarter, and core apples.
Mix sugar, lemon juice, water, and candies in saucepan. Cook for 5 minutes on a medium to high setting to form a syrup, stirring during cooking to dissolve candies. Add apples to syrup. Cook until apples are transparent and tender.
