JENNINGS — New Iberia Aquatics competed in the 19th annual JASL Swimfest this past Friday and Saturday against teams from Jennings, Opelousas, Lafayette and Alexandria in a 25-yard, seven-lane regulation pool.
High point boy for New Iberia taking six silver medals was Dequan Dwyer, who placed second in the boys 12-year-old 50-yard freestyle in 35.52 seconds, the 100-yard free in 1:20.94, the 200-yard free in 3:10.71, the 50-yard breast stroke in 42.71, the 50-yard butterfly in 40.46 and the 100-yard individual medley (IM) in 1:32.52. Dwyer also took the bronze in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 46.33 seconds.
Jeremiah Deflander in the 9-year-old boys division took five bronze medals for the team in the 50-yard free with a time of 42.01 seconds, the 100-yard free (1:42.11), the 50-yard backstroke (52.99), the 50-yard breast stroke (1:07.31) and the 100 IM (1:56.99).
Competing in the boys’ open division were Austin Albritton and Avery Broussard. Albritton placed fourth in the 50-yard free in 33.20 seconds and the 100-yard free in 1:19.93. He also placed fifth in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:47.03). Broussard placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:31.50), fifth in the 50-yard free (35.65) and sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:57.44).
Christian Prater represented the team in the 7-year-old boys’ division, placing fourth in the 25-yard butterfly (34.45 seconds), fifth in the 25-yard free (30.17) and seventh in the 25-yard backstroke (39.70).
Kohl Finley represented New Iberia in the 6-and-under category, placing fourth in the 25-yard free with a time of 45.02 seconds.
The girls team competed in two relays, placing third in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Representing the team in the relays were Brandy Milliman, Aeran Melancon, Alexis Trosclair, Emily Aycock and Alison Trahan.
Brandy Milliman was the high point girl for the team, taking the gold in the 500-yard freestyle (15 & Over) with a time of 7:21.64. She also took silvers in the 200-yard IM (3:15.30) and 100-yard butterfly (1:40.59), bronze in the 100-yard free (1:17.14), fourth in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:43.93) and eighth in the 50-yard free (35.64).
Melancon took silver medals in the 13-14 girls’ 200-yard free (2:45.05) and 100-yard backstroke (1:21.14). She also placed third in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:38.91), fourth in the 100-yard free (1:20.19) and fifth in the 50-yard free (33.57).
Representing in the 12-year-old girls was Alexis Trosclair placing third in the 100-yard free (1:16.53) and 50-yard breast stroke (44:03), fourth in the 50-yard free (34.55), 50-yard backstroke (40.67) and 50-yard butterfly (42.29).
Alyson Trahan, Emily Aycock and Alex Finley competed in the 11-year-old division for NIA. Trahan placed fifth in the 50-yard free (39.12), 100-yard free (1:25.29) and 50-yard butterfly (56.01), seventh in the 50-yard back (57.17) and eighth in the 50-yard breast stroke (59.46). Aycock placed fifth in the 200-yard free (3:37.82) and sixth in the 100-yard IM (1:56.10).
Kenya Mixon, Yazman Keloge and Eugenie Pileger competed in the 9- and 10-year-old girls’ division. Mixon placed fifth in the 50-yard breast stroke (1:03.53) and 100 IM (2:04.91) and sixth in the 50-yard free (49.48), 100-yard free (2:02.11) and 50-yard back (1:00.54).
New Iberia Aquatics competes in Opelousas on Friday and Saturday.
