* ATCHAFALAYA BASIN — Keith Price, Blue’s Archery owner at
Cajun Guns & Tackle, reports: BASS best around moving, deeper water heat
ramps up and overflow swamp falls … try G.A. Cut, Mud Cove Bypass, Beau Bayou
… mostly around deadfalls on shad-colored crank baits, june bug Sweet Beavers
and Baby Brush Hogs. BREAM, GOGGLE-EYE and CHINQUAPIN on crickets,
worms and artificials tipped with Crappie Nibbles in Oak Ridge, Beau Bayou,
Bayou Benoit, Phillips Canal, Mama’s Pond, Charenton Lake. SAC-A-LAIT mostly
on blue/white tube jigs and hair jigs, some on black/chartreuse, red/chartreuse and
pink/white tube jigs and hair jigs on a 1/32- or, even, 1/16-ounce leadhead in Beau
Bayou, Miller’s Chute, Grevemberg and Crew Boat Chute (best there with shiners).
** MORGAN CITY — Kevin Voisin, Atchafalaya Bail Bonds owner/St.
Mary Parish Councilman and BASSWeekend Series angler, reports: BASS, nonkeepers
plentiful (often 15 for every keeper) early and late and on overcast days
on watermelon/pearl plastic frogs on grass beds in Flat Lake … also on
chrome/blue Chug Bugs in and around scattered grass beds in Flat Lake … also on
shad-colored Bandit crank baits (200 series) and red shad plastic worms and chartreuse/
white spinnerbaits around points with moving water along Bayou Sorrel,
Little Bayou Jesse, Big Bayou Jesse … also try buzz baits, soft plastics and spinnerbaits
in Bayou Boutte, Orange Barrel Canal.
*** SPANISH LAKE — Jean Williams, Jean’s Bait Shop owner, reports:
BREAM, average 8-12, mostly on crickets, some on red worms, 12 inches deep
around rip-rap and brushy areas along shoreline. CATFISH, average 6, up to 12,
average 1 1/2 pounds, on worms, shrimp, shiners, chicken liver and cut bait mostly
around fishing piers and water control structure.
**** CYPREMORT POINT — Doug Gaspard, Dago’s Mobil & Grocery
owner, reports: SPECKLED TROUT, some limits, average 2-3 pounds,weather and
water conditions permitting, on chartreuse/red and purple/gold soft plastics on a
1/8-ounce leadhead at Tee Butte, Pavy’s Reef, Diamond Reef and Shell Keys. REDFISH,
many limits, on shrimp along shoreline of Weeks Bay, Marsh Island (The
Worm, north rocks of Lake Sand, Oyster Lake), Dry Reef and around reefs and
grass in Southwest Pass.
