The Down South Riders Motorcycle Club of Jeanerette recently awarded scholarships to three Teche Area seniors.

Recipients of the award were Peggy Thomas, Jeanerette Senior High School, Jerald Hawkins, West St. Mary High School and La’Teyana McDaniel, Franklin Senior High School.

Each senior selected will receive an educational scholarship that will be presented upon their enrollment into the college of their choice. The scholarships were awarded through an application process.

The Down South Riders Club was formed in 2007 by Lionel “Kayou” White.

“The club began with a mission to do something we all loved — to ride, but through growth and interaction with clubs throughout Louisiana and the South Central area, the club developed a new focus —- to gain the support our community, respect of fellow bikers and give back to our community by supporting its most precious asset, the youth,” said Dawyne Brown, president of Down South Riders.
