Mathilde Braquet Bourque

ST. MARTINVILLE — A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Mathilde Braquet Bourque, 95, who passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continue at 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The Rev. Rusty Richard will officiate at the funeral service. Reading the scriptures will be Courtney Poirier and Cassie Lopez. Gift bearers will be Lani Latiolais, Chelsie Bourque and Abbey Poirier. Music selections will be provided by Pat Melancon and Pat Menard. Interment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.

Mrs. Bourque owned her own grocery store in the early ’50s and when she closed the store, she was employed by Jenny’s Grocery Store for many years. A spiritual and devout Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church. She prayed the Rosary daily, offering her intentions for those in need.

She enjoyed reading, playing scrabble, going camping and eating out. Her most treasured items were spent with her family and she especially loved spoiling her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons Leon (T-Bit) Bourque and his wife, Mary Dell, Leonie (L.P) Bourque and his wife, Marie, all of St. Martinville, and Richard Bourque and his wife, Janelle, of Scott; 34 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her father, Leon Braquet; mother, Octavie Richard Braquet; husband, Elmo Bourque Sr.; sons Elmo Bourque Jr. and Michael Bourque; daughters Mathilde Romero and Lucy Bourque; brother Gilman Braquet; sisters Maria Alleman, Martha Olivier and Myrtle Brown; grandchildren Kenny Bourque and Gregory P. Bourque.

Pallbearers will be Blair Bourque, Craig Bourque, Lance Lopez, Lee Dugas, Todd Bourque and Darren Bourque.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leon (T-Bit) Bourque, Leonie (L.P) Bourque, Richard Bourque and Bailey Poirier.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to her sitters Amber Sonnier, Patsy Broussard, Dianne Aucoin, Angelique Mallery and Brenda Theriot; also to Kayla Sonnier, NP, St. Joseph’s Hospice and Stat Health staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice.
