Joseph R. ‘Joe’ Sapienza

Funeral services will be celebrated for Joseph R. “Joe” Sapienza, 83, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until services.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Sapienza passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, at his residence.

Joe, as he was known by family and friends, was owner, along with his brother Francis, of Big Boy Drayage Moving and Freight.

Survivors include his daughters Cecile S. Motto and husband, Ray, of Loreauville and Charlene “Charlie” Cormier of New Iberia; three grandchildren Chris Motto of Baton Rouge, Joey Motto and wife, Ashley, of Loreauville and Kathryn Motto of New Iberia; his great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Mikayla, Tookie and Cameron; and his sister Lillie Sapienza of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Loyd Landry Sapienza; parents, Charles and Sarah Rumore Sapienza; great grandson Gavin Allen Motto; son-in-law Craig Cormier; and a sister and brother Nina Sapienza David and Francis Sapienza Sr.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris and Joey Motto, Francis, Tommy, Paul and John Sapienza.
