A funeral service celebrating the life of Harold C. Halbert, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Charles Langlois, pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services, with the Rosary be recited at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Halbert was born March 21, 1920, in Franklin to the late Xavier and Zolide Lambert Halbert, and passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at his residence.
Harold was retired from CLECO with 43 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years. Harold and Ruby were also members of the local square dance group for 43 years, and enjoyed traveling. Through their years, they’ve traveled throughout the United States and Canada, and enjoyed a very special two week long camping trip across Mexico.
He leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 70 years, Ruby Crochet Halbert, of New Iberia; his sons Donald J. Halbert (Colleen) of Baton Rouge and Allen M. Halbert (Karen Dwyer) of Ventress; six grandchildren Kerry Thornton (Dale), Jayme Vercher, Brett Halbert (Angela), Lindsey Pitalo (Anthony), Boyd Halbert (Shelly) and Ben Halbert (Junie); 12 great-grandchildren Caleb, Cole, Caroline, Everett, Addie, Gibson, Eden, Greyson, Kyler, Blake, Cade and Brytlin; and his sister Ethel Halbert Scott (Walter) of New Iberia.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Harold C. Halbert Jr.; a great-granddaughter Robin Halbert; and his sisters Charlotte Marin, Lucille Comeaux and Zolide “Dee” Nall.
Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. George Cousin, Amedisys Hospice and to all his sitters Cassie Hines, Lottie Moore, Julia Freeman, Terry Davis, Cassandra Colbert, Doretha Charles, Caroly Francis, Sherry and LaTrail Carter, Laura Bell and Maggie Robertson for the care and compassion shown.
