LHS has 10 valedictorians

LOREAUVILLE — Loreauville High School will graduate 62 students as the Class of 2013 Tuesday at a 6 p.m. commencement ceremony where 10 students will represent the class as valedictorians.

Gabrielle Borel, daughter of Tim and Veronica Borel of New Iberia, is one of the 10 valedictorians. This fall Borel will attend Louisiana State University where she plans to major in biology.

While in high school, Borel was active in Senior Beta, National Honors Society, Student Council, Quiz Bowl, National Society of High School Scholars and varsity softball. She also participated as the mascot and the football manager.

Borel’s awards include Softball All-Academic Composite Team, President’s Education Awards Program for Outstanding Academic Excellence, University of Louisiana at Lafayette Literary Rally Scholarship for First Place in Sociology, Louisiana ACT Council Louisiana Student Achievement Award and a Patrick F. Taylor Foundation Recognition as a Taylor Scholar.

Morgan Bourque, daughter of Ricky Bourque and Belinda Phillips of Loreauville, will attend McNeese State University where she plans to major in public relations.

Bourque was active in varsity cheerleading as captain for two years, Senior Beta as president for two years, National Honor Society as vice president, Big Brothers Big Sisters, student council as executive president and basketball.

Bourque was the state winner in the Beta Oratory competition, placing top ten for national oratory competition, and she maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout each of her high school years.

Theerwat Charusiripremaskun, son of Dollaporn Broussard and Timothy Broussard of Loreauville, will join the U.S. Marine Corps. after graduation. Charusiripremaskun will leave May 28 for boot camp in Parris Island, S.C.

Charusiripremsakun was active in Beta Club and National Honor Society and he was a member of the basketball team and track and field. He was class president for the Class of 2014 in 2012 and executive officer in 2013. He has been in the U.S. for three years and has achieves straight A’s throughout high school with no background in English.

Charusiripremsakun’s awards include Principal’s Awards, Algebra II Award, French Award, first place in geometry for district rally, fourth place in geometry for state rally, second place in biology I for district rally, first place in U.S. history in district rally and graduating from high school in three years.

Trent Drae Michael Dugas, son of Aimye and Drew Dugas of Loreauville, will attend LSU where he will major in Animal Science and minor in Agriculture Business. Dugas wants to further his academic goals by attending veterinary school and becoming a veterinarian specializing in large animals

In high school, Dugas was the 4-H vice president and junior leader, executive Student Council treasurer, Quiz Bowl captain, a Science Olympiad member, varsity baseball player and a four-year member of Rally Team. He was active in National Society of High School Scholars, National Honor Society and National Beta Club.

Awards Dugas received in high school were Louisiana Baseball All-Academic Composite Team, participant National Youth Leadership Forum at Yale University, United States Achievement Academy: National Science, National Athletic, Honor Roll, Who’s Who Among American Scholars, four years — Academic 4.0 Letterman, Principal’s Award, President’s Education Award and District and State Literary Rally Participant/Winner.

Other awards include National Congressional 4-H Winner, 4-H Educational Trip Winner, 4-H Goat Premier Exhibitor — Iberia Parish, Acadiana District, & State Winner, first 4-H University State Agriculture Demonstration, and numerous 4-H placings in Livestock, Exhibits and Demonstrations.

Keri Judice is the daughter of Amy Price and Robert Judice Jr. of Loreauville. She plans to attend LSU where she will major in biochemistry.

While in high school, Judice was active in National Honor Society, Senior Beta Club, Student Council, cheerleading, basketball and the AHEC medical program. She also received Principal’s Award and Straight A’s.

Joseph Landry II, son of Mark and Penny Landry of Loreauville, plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he will major in marketing.

Landry was active in the National Beta Club, National Honor Society, the high school’s play production and was the capitan of both the Golf and Bowling teams. He received the Principal’s award, academic all-state for golf and bowling, the Daughters of the American Revolution award, the yearbook award and first place for American History in Literary Rally.

Elizabeth Scott, daughter of Mary Ann and Mitchell Scott, earned a 4.0 GPA in high school and plans to attend ULL. She has earned the ULL Academic Scholarship and TOPS award. In high school, she was active in the National Honor Society and the Speech/Drama Club.

Rachelle Walet, daughter of Evelyn and Gregory Walet of Loreauville, will attend ULL after graduation and will major in nursing.

She was active in the Beta Club, Speech and Drama Club, National Honor Society, yearbook staff, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, and the Quiz Bowl team. She also volunteered for her school’s library, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the local Humane Society.

Walet received the Principal’s Award, first place in Lifestyle’s 2011 Drug-Free Essay Contest, first place in the District Literary Rally for Chemistry and Physics, and the Louisiana Student Achievement Award. She also earned awards in her school for excellence in English, French, science, sociology and speech/drama.

Kyrsa Williams, daughter of Hilda Williams and Floyd Jones, will graduate with a 4.0 GPA and will attend ULL where she plans to major in education and minor in psychology. Williams participated in the Senior BETA Club, National Honor Society, Speech and Drama Club and Talent Search. She also has earned a ULL Academic Scholarship.

Andrea Willis is the daughter of Lloyd Willis Jr. and Sharon Willis of Loreauville. She plans to attend Xavier University where she will major in biology pre-med.

Willis was active in BETA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Chapel Club, basketball, softball, Solomon House Junior Council, Knights of Peter Claver and Our Lady of Victory Youth Group.

Willis has received the Top Reader Award, Loreauville High School Award, All-District Defensive Basketball Team, All-State All-Academic Girls’ Basketball and Softball Teams, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award and Louisiana State Junior Daughter of the Year.
