NISH graduating 371 with 14 valedictorians

Fourteen students earned a 4.0 GPA and will be named the valedictorians of the Class of 2013 at New Iberia Senior High School.
The students will lead the 371 graduates at the 6 p.m. commencement ceremony Thursday in the NISH gym.

Alyssa Bienvenu, daughter of Chrys and Troy Bienvenu, plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she intends to major in chemistry and chemical engineering.
Bienvenu has earned the ULL Outstanding Student Scholarship for $49,000, Valedictorian Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship, DOW Chemical Internship and the University of Louisiana at Monroe President’s Academy participant. She also has earned Science Olympiad for third in state, one gold and two silvers in District Olympiad, one silver and three bronzes in State Olympiad, Prudential Spirit of Community School Nominee, and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate award.
While in high school she was the Science Olympiad co-captain, soccer coach and soccer referee. She participated in National Honor Society, Beta Club, Chorus, Literary Rally and Key Club.
Brayton Bonin, son of Donovan and Missy Bonin, plans to attend Louisiana State University, where he will major in mechanical engineering.
Bonin has received the Academic Scholarship from LSU, TOPS Scholarship, Academic Letter, two second-place medals in regional competition for Science Olympiad, Science Olympiad third place in state and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate. He also was active in Beta Club, National Honor Society and Science Olympiad.
Kimberly Duke, daughter of Katherine and Donald Duke, will attend ULL where she plans to major in nursing. She has earned the ULL Academic Scholarship, Valedictorian Scholarship and TOPS Scholarship.

Katherine “Katie” Frederick, daughter of Tracy and Craig Frederick, plans to attend Loyola University New Orleans to major in graphic design.
She has received the Academic Scholarship from Loyola for $70,000, TOPS Scholarship, Principal’s List and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate
Frederick served as the vice president of the Key Club for 2011-12 and president for 2012-13.She also was the Art Guild president for 2012-13, a member of National Honor Society and a Senior Mentor.
Sarah Genest, daughter of Tia Harrington and Rodney Genest, will attend LSU to major in animal science/pre-veterinary.
Genest has received a scholarship from the LSU College of Agriculture, TOPS Scholarship, Academic Letter, second and third in District Science Olympiad, second place in State Science Olympiad, Louisiana Girls’ State Participant, Sophomore Class Most Intelligent Girl, Principal’s List and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
Genest was the Beta Club Secretary for 2012-13, and she participated in National Honor Society, Art Guild, Prom Committee, Science Olympiad and Literary Rally.
Tiffany Gilbert, daughter of Dawn and Clint Rambo, plans to attend ULL, where she will major in informatics. Gilbert has received the ULL Centennial Scholarship for $6,000, ULL Valedictorian Scholarship for $1,000 and the TOPS Performance Scholarship.
Gilbert was Chapel Club vice president and the Voice of NISH. She participated in Literary Rally, National Honor Society, and she maintained the NISH website.
Hunter Inzerella, son of Korey and Cheryl Inzerella, plans to attend ULL, where he will major in petroleum engineering.
Inzerella’s awards include ULL Academic Scholarship, ULL Valedictorian Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship, All-State Academic Composite Team-Soccer and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
While in high school he was captain of the boys’ soccer team and a participant in the Science Olympiad and 4-H Club.
Jason Jones Jr., son of Jason Sr. and June Jones, plans to attend Louisiana College, where he will major in statistical mathematics.
Jones has received the Leadership Award and Valedictorian Award from Louisiana College, TOPS Scholarship, First Team All-District for football and baseball, Eddie Sorrel Award, All-State Honorable Mention for Football, All-State Academic Composite Team for baseball and football and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
Jones was the football quarterback and baseball catcher while in high school, and he also participated in the Key Club and Chess Club.
Andrew LeBlanc, son of Wilson LeBlanc Jr. and Dianne LeBlanc, plans to attend Louisiana Tech University, where he plans to major in engineering.
LeBlanc has received the Louisiana Tech University Academic Scholarship, Willis & Mildred Pellerin Foundation Scholarship, MathMovesU Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship and the GFWCWomen’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
He participated in National Honor Society, Beta Club, Science Olympiad and Boy Scouts of America.
Colby Lopez, son of Marshal and Lanette Lopez, plans to attend ULL, where he will major in mechanical engineering.
Lopez earned the ULL Academic Scholarship, Valedictorian Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship, Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance Freshman Year. He also participated in football and basketball freshman year, is a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and is an employee of Metal Shark.
Summer Romero, daughter of Todd and Wendy Romero, will attend ULL, where she will major in finance and management.
Romero has earned the ULL Academic Scholarship, Valedictorian Scholarship, TOPS Honors Scholarship, Sorority Scholarship, ULL Rally Scholarship, Science Olympiad Awards and theGFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
She was a three-year member of National Honor Society, two-year member of Beta Club and she was active in Chorus, Musical Productions, Art Guild, Key Club and Science Olympiad.
Breigh Sonnier, daughter of Lori Savoie Sonnier and Mark Sonnier, plans to attend LSU, where she will major in microbiology. In high school, she participated in Chorus and National Honor Society.
Sonnier has earned the LSU Academic Scholars Resident Award for $6,000, TOPS Honors Scholarship, LSU Honors College, Duke University TIP Award in 2008, first place District Rally in sociology, first place State Rally in sociology, second place District Rally in biology, fifth place State Rally in biology, University at Louisiana at Monroe President’s Academy participant, A-HEC of a Summer Most Outstanding Volunteer and A-HEC “Day with the Docs.”
Luke Villermin, son of Eric and Peggy Villermin, will attend Louisiana Tech University, where he plans to major in nanosystems engineering.
Villermin has earned the Louisiana Tech University Honors Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship, Rotary Club Scholarship, Herff-Jones Scholarship and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
He was a member of National Honor Society, Beta Club, Science Olympiad, NISH Band, Boy Scout Troop 17 and Key Club.
Zhayna Yarber, daughter of Marlanda Durand and Leon Greene Jr., plans to attend Xavier University of Louisiana, where she will major in pre-med biology.
Yarber has earned the Xavier Academic Scholarship, TOPS Scholarship, Principal’s List, FBLA State Convention third place, A-HEC of a Summer and the GFWC Women’s Club of New Iberia/Lifestyle Magazine Outstanding Graduate.
She was active in National Honor Society, Beta Club, FBLA, Ebonaires, Upward Bound, Student Government and Prom and Ring Ceremony Committee.
