Dale Cecil Hayes

A memorial service will be conducted for Mr. Dale Cecil “Boompa” Hayes, 67, at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at Assembly Christian Center in New Iberia with pastor Guy Lavergne officiating.

A native of Flint, Mich., and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Hayes passed away at 3.25 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2013.

Mr. Hayes was retired after many years of being a Direct Care Worker for the Albuquerque ARC and Iberia ARC. He was also was a brick and stone mason when he lived in Traverse City, Mich., in previous years. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, walking in the woods, mountain climbing, traveling (especially the Southwest), exploring creeks and lakes, taking short road trips, eating good food, two tracking in Michigan, watching TV (especially game shows, the History Channel and the Food Network), camping and barbecuing. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and family. He believed in and loved Jesus.

He is survived by his daughters Kimberly Hayes of New Iberia and Shannon Hayes Guzman and husband, Sergio, of New Iberia; two sons Dale “Bro” Hayes Jr. of New Iberia and Michael Hayes of Michigan; grandchildren of his heart Alexis Hayes and fiancé Justin Fusilier, Alex Hayes, Samuel Bageant, Lily Bageant, Brittany Guzman, Nicholas Guzman and Ginny Guzman, all of New Iberia; two sisters-in-law Doris Jacobs Covington and Shirley Fee and husband, Charles, of New Iberia; and a host of nieces and nephews across the United States.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Babin Hayes, of New Iberia; parents, Clarence Cecil Hayes and Lona Mae Hopkins Hayes Sanborn; a brother Wayne Hayes; two sisters Gloria Smith and Joyce Carlson, all of Michigan; three brothers-in-law Henry Babin, Jerry Carlson and Robert Smith; a daughter Mary Hayes; and a nephew Shayne Fee.
