ST.MARTINVILLE—A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon, on Monday, July 1, 2013, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Leed Martin Champagne Sr., 89, who passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and continue at 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Monday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Rev. Jude Halphen, Associate Pastor of St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Michelle Bienvenu and Hannah Guilbeau. Gift Bearers will be Sandi Angelle, Amber Champagne and Sean Champagne. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Leed, a lifelong resident of St. Martinville, was a hard-working and experienced Sugarcane and Cattle Farmer in St. Martin Parish, operating “Leed Champagne & Sons Farms” for 60 years. As a pastime, he enjoyed going to Evangeline Downs Racetrack and loved having his weekly coffee club gathering with his friends. He was a loving father and grandfather, who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by two daughters Millie (Rick) LeBlanc and Jackie (Francis) LeBlanc; two sons Leed M. (Brenda) Champagne Jr. and Hobson (Joyce) Champagne; two sisters Adez Breaux and Eula Mae Halphen; six grandchildren Brooks Champagne, Brody Champagne, Amber Champagne, Sandi Angelle, Coby Champagne and Shane Guilbeau; 11 great-grandchildren; and his little poodle Ginger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Hobson Martin Champagne and Telcecila Champagne; and his beloved wife, Carmen Judice Champagne.
Pallbearers will be Brooks Champagne, Brody Champagne, Shane Guilbeau, Coby Champagne, Rick LeBlanc and Francis LeBlanc.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nolan Doré, Charles Russo, Harold Champagne, Raymond Delahoussaye, Joe Judice, Carlos Alvarez and Orlando Delgado.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to his dedicated caregivers Eula Jones, Dot Zeno and Agnes Frilot; and special thanks to Dr. Jaime Cordova and his staff, Nursing Specialities, and the employees of Mills Cashway Pharmacy.
