Romero was also a member of the Science Olympiad state competition team.

She plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in financing and management. Her long term goals include culinary school and owning a pastry shop.

The Aim High Award is a cash scholarship given in honor and remembrance of New Iberia High School 1958 graduate Major James Grace, United States Air Force, who was an outstanding student, athlete and military officer. After volunteering as a fighter pilot in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, his plane was shot down over Laos on June 14, 1969. He survived the crash but his fate remains unknown.

The scholarship is made possible from donations by family and friends.
