Norbert Foster ‘T-Neg’ Berard Sr.

A Home-Going Celebration will be held for Norbert Foster “T-Neg” Berard Sr., 80, at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2, New Iberia, with the Rev. Eric Fondal officiating.

He will await the resurrection at Saint Matthew Cemetery, New Iberia.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday at the church from 7 a.m. until the time of service.

A native and resident of New Iberia, he passed at 12:49 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, at his residence. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 2, New Iberia, where he served as president of the Usher Department.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sons Norbert Foster Berard Jr. (Margaret) and Allen Joseph Berard (Lola) of New Iberia; three daughters Eloise Mouton, Sharon Ann Berard and Gwen Hector (Percy), all of New Iberia; one sister Alma Haynes of Beaumont, Texas; and two brothers Dalton Auguster (Belinda) of Houston and Joseph C. Berard of Denver; a best friend Terell Spencer of New Iberia; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Louisa M. James Berard; one son Hayward Berard; two grandchildren Scherrie Berard and Damien Berard; two great-grandchildren Alijandare Shonta La’Shay Howard and Jasmine Ashante Gabriel; parents, Andrew and Ella Berard; paternal grandparents, Juba and Julian Berard; one brother Adam Berard; two sisters Mary Mildred Lewis and Marjorie Stackhouse; one son-in-law Felton Mouton; eight brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and three nieces.

Active pallbearers will be Douglas Maiden, Antonio Quetel, Norbert Berard III, David Zenon, Joseph Lewis and Connie Melton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Norbert F. Berard Jr., Allen Berard, Percy Hector, Ian Lewis, Bradley Young, Jamal Davis, Dalton Auguster, Jimmy Haynes, Carlton Lewis, Martin Lewis, Terrell Spencer, Michael Riley, Nathaniel Toby and David Berard.
