About 200 students participated in Special Olympics’ Acadiana Area 2014 Team Skills Basketball Tournament at the Cyr-Gates Community Center in City Park.

Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes entered 46 teams, who were representing elementary, middle and high schools, as well as outreach programs. 

For the first time, Project Unify was incorporated into the tournament. Unified Sports is an inclusive program that combines Special Olympics athletes, “individuals with intellectual disabilities,” and unified partners, “individuals without intellectual disabilities,” on teams for training and competition, according to a prepared statement.
