FRANKLIN — Funeral services for Georgia Goolsbee McCabe will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, with a gathering of family and friends beginning at noon. The Rev. Ed Downs of First Baptist Church of New Iberia will officiate the service. She will be laid to rest with her late husband in Townsend Cemetery in Smithville, Ark. Serving as pallbearers will be her sons Scott, Stephen, David and Solomon McCabe, her brother-in-law Ronald McCabe and her son-in-law Shane DeMahy.
Ms. Georgia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose family was her passion. She had a smile that was contagious and could light up a room. She was born on July 30, 1942, in Waco, Texas, to G.W. and Alma Goolsbee. In 1968 she married the love of her life, Lawrence, and began their family life. They settled in Franklin, where they raised six children. In 2007 her husband retired and they relocated to Smithville, Ark., to enjoy the mountain life. Following the passing of Lawrence in 2011, she moved to New Iberia to be near family, where she resided until her passing on February 15, 2014, at the age of 71.
Survivors include six children Scott McCabe and his wife, Gail, and their three children Britlyn, Travis and Hailey, Stephen McCabe and his wife, Leriza, and their daughter Jessica, Kristal McCabe DeMahy and her husband, Shane, and their two children, Chloe and Sean, David McCabe and his wife, Lacey, and their three children Alissa, Jackson and Olivia, Holly McCabe and her two children Toni and Romey and Solomon McCabe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” Gene McCabe; her parents, G.W. Goolsbee and Alma Snider Goolsbee; as well as an infant brother Mark.
