Dancehalls of South Louisiana

University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Assistant Director for Research John “Pudd” Sharp will screen parts of his new documentary film, Dancehalls of South Louisiana and discuss new details of his research on dancehalls in local parishes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 at the Jeanerette Museum. The museum is located at 500 E. Main Street, Jeanerette.

Sharp has inventoried over 1,200 dancehalls and will give an introduction and brief discussion about his work that includes house dances dating back to the late 1800s.

He wonbrthe 2012 Louisiana Filmmaker award from Louisiana Economic Developmentbrfor his film, Dancehalls of SouthbrLouisiana. Sharp also served as writer, producer and photographer for thebrdocumentary, Water on Road, the storybrof Isle de Jean Charles, Louisiana a small community, made up entirely ofbrmembers of the Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw and Houma Indian Tribes.

The one hour film viewing and talk is suitable for an adult audience and is being held free of charge.
