A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Elton “Tuggy” Walker, 70, who died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
The Rev. Mark Derise will be the celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Walker was born on November 25, 1943, to Michel and Enola Landry Walker. He was a passionate, thriving hard worker in the oil and gas industry, having worked for Nabors Offshore for 40 years, until retiring due to his illness. Elton, who was better known as “Tuggy,” was loved and respected by all of his co-workers. His specialty was always playing jokes or telling jokes to everyone.
Elton was a generous and kind man who always gave of himself. His family was the world to him and he cherished every moment spent with them. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eula Poirrier Walker, of New Iberia; children Clint Walker and wife, Renee, of Loreauville, Kent “Tu-Tu” Walker and companion Alita Dubois of New Iberia and Shannon Walker and fiancé Marshall Moneaux of New Iberia; brother Kenwood Walker and wife, Connie, of New Iberia; sister Shirley Barras of Tennessee; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Tyler Walker; brothers Mitchell Walker, Gordy Walker and Lloyd Walker; sisters Theresa Myers and May Hayes; and his in-laws Ernest “Boone” and Gussie Badeaux Poirrier.
Pallbearers will be Clint Walker, Kent “Tu-Tu” Walker, Marshall Moneaux, Kenwood Walker, Uray Poirrier and Eugene Poirrier.
Honorary pallbearers include Kent Walker Jr., Coyan Walker and Storm Olivier.
The family would like to give special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, especially Desiree Derouen, Jody Blanchard and Ms. Dee.
