Local students receive accolades

NATCHITOCHES — More than 165 students were recognized during the Summer Recognition Ceremony held Oct. 2 in Treen Auditorium at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts, including six from the Teche Area.

“We are here today because you guys are amazing,” said Dr. Pat Widhalm, executive director. “We like to celebrate what you do, in your own time, both academically and personally.”

Local students who are members of the National Honor Society are: Selene Allain-Kovacs, a senior from Jeanerette; Samuel Crochet, a junior from New Iberia; and Louis Eikel, a senior from New Iberia.

Also recognized for participation in the summer programs at Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts are Ethan Riggs, a junior from New Iberia, and Brandon Ware, a junior from Franklin. Justin Blanchard, a junior from St. Martinville, also participated in the Future Scientists Program.

Freeman named USAA Scholar

Most Popular

Holly Freeman of New Iberia has been named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.

The USAA has established the All-American Scholar Award Program to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the academics disciplines.

The All-American Scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade point average.

Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor or other qualified sponsor are accepted.

A student at Westgate High School, Holly was nominated for the honor by Donna Soileau.

She will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook which is publish nationally.

She is the daughter of Darrin and Betty Jo Freeman of New Iberia.
