LAFAYETTE — Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette for Dr. Philip J. Culotta, 91, who died on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum of the Resurrection.
The Reverend Howard Blessing, pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church, will be the celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral service.
Survivors include two daughters Deborah Culotta and Bonnie C. LaFoe; two grandchildren Katherine Miller and Laura Igo; two great-grandchildren Julianna Miller and Abigail Miller; and two sisters Catherine C. Guidry and Marietta C. Culotta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie B. Culotta; his parents, Joseph and Mary Muffaletto Culotta; his sisters Rosa Culotta and Sarah M. Culotta.
Philip Culotta was born in Lafayette on April 9, 1923, and was a resident of New Iberia for 58 years. He was a veteran of military service, having served in the United States Army during World War II. Dr. Culotta was a graduate of SLI and LSU Medical School and specialized in Radiology at Oschner’s Hospital in New Orleans. He practiced general medicine in Youngsville and New Iberia and retired from Dauterive Hospital as a Radiologist. Dr. Culotta was a member of the Lions Club in New Iberia and enjoyed playing golf, woodworking and treasured his many friendships. He was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and to continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
