Lady Jackets rebound from opening loss

Anderson Middle School beat Opelousas Junior High 22-19 Saturday to win the 26th Annual Tiger Classic tournament title, avenging a loss from three days earlier to OJHS.

Opelousas beat Anderson Middle 49-42 on Wednesday, hitting 20 of 24 free throws in the win. On Saturday, the teams combined for fewer than half the 91 points in that game, totaling 41 in the tournament finals. Opelousas went 4-for-10 at the line Saturday.

The biggest lead by either team was 2 points until the final two minutes of Saturday’s game, when AMS held Opelousas scoreless and took its final 3-point lead. Markeyvrick Eddie had 12 points to lead Anderson Middle and Tyreese Jackson and Keith Lopez had 4 each.

AMS beat St. Martinville 45-18 in its tournament opener behind Eddie’s 15 points and Lopez’s 11. Bernard Mitchell had 10 points for St. Martinville.

Anderson beat E. Boudreaux 34-12 in its next game. Eddie had 11 points and Jackson 10 to lead AMS. Shonathon Sparrow had 10 points for E. Boudreaux.

Anderson Middle beat Carencro 39-25 in the semifinals. Eddie had 20 points for Anderson Middle. Theontae Allen and Trevian Williams had 5 each for Carencro.
