Funeral services will be held for James W. Conner, 71, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Fletcher Funeral Home, New Iberia, with the Rev. Francis Davis officiating.
He will await the resurrection at St. Edward Catholic Church Cemetery, New Iberia.
A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday at the funeral home 8 a.m. until the time of services.
James Winston Conner was born on September 25, 1943, to the late Morris Conner Sr. and Annie Manuel Conner. He was called home on March 2, 2015, in Jacksonville, Florida, after a lengthy illness. A native of Weeks Island, James moved to New Iberia and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida, during the latter part of his lengthy illness. He lived the last 13 years of his life in Jacksonville.
James received his elementary education on Weeks Island and graduated from Jonas Henderson High School in 1963. He courageously served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years, where he received several ribbons, medals and commendations. He was employed by Morton Salt Company for 10 years. James formed his own business and worked there until his illness. He was known for his stylish attire, excellent bowling, landscaping and poetry skills. James was loved by all because of his free spirit. He never met a stranger.
He leaves to cherish his memory and in God’s care three sons Marvin Conner of Bay City, Texas, Randy Conner and Bryan Conner of New Iberia; two daughters Monique C. Fischman of Killeen, Texas, and Naisha Conner of New Iberia; two brothers Martin L. Conner of Jacksonville and Glenn G. Conner (Debra) of New Iberia; two sisters Irma Guillory (Else) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Cherry Ann C. Polk of Houston; two sisters-in-law Ruth Conner of Jeanerette and Stella Conner of New Iberia; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He now joins in glory with his parents, Morris Conner Sr. and Annie Manuel Conner; two sisters Lois C. Moncriffe and Don-Morrow C. Wilturner; four brothers Morris Conner Jr., Marion Conner, Hodges Conner and Leo Conner.
Active pallbearers will be Tyrone Moncriffe, Errol Moncriffe, Leo Conner Jr., Keith Conner, Troy Wilturner and Kerry Conner Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Conner, Glenn Conner, Else Guillory, Terrence Guillory, Tedrick Guillory, Darrin Guillory, Douglas Winston, Brian Moncriffe and Jon Conner.
