- Theriot seeks fourth term as St. Martin sheriff
ST. MARTINVILLE — Three-term St. Martin Parish Sheriff Ronald Theriot announced last week he plans on seeking a fourth term on this year’s gubernatorial election.
Theriot, also called “Ronny,” was first elected in 2003 and hasn’t changed seats since. In his statement, he touted the financial status of the office as well as improvements to crime-prevention, technology, equipment and training as products of his leadership.
“In this current term, our office has demonstrated our commitment to the citizens by providing the highest level of professional law enforcement and community services,” he said in his statement.
Theriot said crime has fallen 45 percent under his tenure, which places it below regional, state and national crime rates. He attributed that success to his efforts to keep his deputies up to date on training and crime trends.
“I am proud to serve you as sheriff and lead the dedicated professionals at the sheriff’s office through the continued relationship with all of the people of St. Martin Parish,” he said.
