Eleven valedictorians lead CHS Class of 2015

Catholic High School will graduate 93 seniors when commencement ceremonies are held at 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia.

Leading the graduates are 11 valedictorians Hailey Elizabeth Blanchard, Nicholas Bonin, Sarah Broussard, Anne Caffery, Lanie Marcantel, Amanda Christine Migues, Heather Marissa Mixon, Monica Mixon, Margaret Pellerin, Morgan Rosamond and Rene Paul Simon Jr., all of whom earned 4.0 grade point averages. Taylor Guillory, whose GPA was 3.9, is this year’s salutatorian for CHS Class of 2015.

Blanchard is the daughter of Brian and Angela Blanchard of New Iberia.

She was a member of the Beta Club, Key Club and National Honor Society.

She received a $6,000 UL Centennial Scholarship.

After graduation, Blanchard plans to attend UL Lafayette and major in chemical engineering.

Bonin is the son of Patrick and Karen Bonin of New Iberia.

He was a member of the Panther football team, campus ministry, Kairos Team, Key Club and Beta Club.

He was awarded the Merit Scholarship worth $108,000 and the Legislative Scholarship for junior and senior year tuition.

After graduation, Bonin plans to attend Tulane University in New Orleans and major in biomedical engineering.

Broussard is the daughter of Bart and Beth Broussard of St. Martinville.

She was Senior Class president, an athletic trainer, participated in Campus Ministry and was a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society.

She has been awarded the Torch of Knowledge, Academic Letters and is recipient of the Tiger Excellence Scholarship.

After graduation, Broussard plans to attend Louisiana State University and hopes to become a physician’s assistant.

Caffery is the daughter of Michael and Katherine Caffery of New Iberia.

She was a member of the Student Council, Beta Club and Quiz Bowl team. She participated in Campus Ministry, Iberia Performing Arts League and Morgan Street Dance Co.

She was National Merit commended scholar and Tulane Presidential Scholar. She also received the Kennedy Beta Scholarship and Tulane Legislative Scholarship.

After graduation, Caffery plans to attend Tulane University and major in biology and anthropology.

Marcantel is the daughter of Earl “Del” Jr. and Melanie Marcantel of New Iberia.

She was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, Quiz Bowl team, Student Council and participated in Campus Ministry and IPAL.

She is the recipient of the UL Distinguished Freshman Scholarship for $8,000, UL Freshman Housing Scholarship and UL Music Housing Scholarship.

After graduation, Marcantel plans to attend UL Lafayette and major in music education.

Migues is the daughter of Angela Migues and Damon Migues of Jeanerette.

She was a member of the volleyball team, basketball team, track team, Beta Club, Key Club, National Honor Society and participated in Campus Ministry.

She was awarded the Composite All State Academic Team in volleyball, basketball and track.

After graduation, Migues plans to attend LSU and major in biological sciences, after which she hopes to be admitted into LSU Medical School in New Orleans and become an oncologist.

Heather Mixon is the daughter of Tynes III and Michelle Mixon of Jeanerette.

She was a competitor in traveling tennis and a member of the National Honor Society.

She has received an athletic scholarship for tennis, as well as academic and valedictorian scholarships and was a regional rally winner in French II.

After graduation, Heather plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in engineering.

Monica Mixon is the daughter of Tynes II and Michelle Mixon of Jeanerette.

She was a member of the track and field team, Student Council and National Honor Society and the National Beta Club.

She is a recipient of the Tulane Legislative Scholarship and Tulane Valedictorian Scholarship.

After graduation, Monica plans to attend Tulane University and major in chemical engineering.

Pellerin is the daughter of Angela Nelson Pellerin and Terry Pellerin Jr. of New Iberia.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and was dance team captain. She also attends Gail Freese School of Dance.

She received the Tiger Excellence Scholarship.

After graduation, Pellerin plans to attend LSU and major in nursing.

Rosamond is the daughter of Tim and Barbara Rosamond of New Iberia.

She was a member of the Lady Panther softball team throughout her high school career. She also was a member of the Student Council, Beta Club, 2014 Homecoming Court and participated in Campus Ministry.

She received and $8,000 LSU Academic Scholars Award and $1,550 per year for the Chancellor’s Study Program.

After graduation, Rosamond plans to attend LSU and major in chemical engineering.

Simon is the son of Rene and Maggie Simon of New Iberia.

He was Student Body president, National Honor Society president, Key Club president, participated in Campus Ministry and competed in tennis.

He received the Tulane Legislative Scholarship, LSU Merit Scholarship, Torch of Knowledge and Serviam Medal.

After graduation, Simon plans to attend Tulane University and eventually go to law school.

Guillory is the daughter of Lori and Kevin Guillory of New Iberia.

She was the cheerleading captain and Lifeteen Junior Core Leader.

She is recipient of the UL Academic Scholarship for $8,000 and UL Two-Year Distinguished Freshman Housing Scholarship for $7,560.

After graduation, Guillory plans to attend UL Lafayette and major in chemical engineering.
