LaJaunie, Smith will lead JSH grads

JEANERETTE — Seventy-one seniors at Jeanerette Senior High School will graduate when ceremonies are held at 6 p.m. Monday in the school gymnasium.
Leading the Class of 2015 will be co-valedictorians Carl Joseph LaJaunie Jr. and Oshanae LaRae Smith, who each finished high school with a weighted grade point average of 4.7917.
LaJaunie is the son of Carl Sr. and Cheri LaJaunie of Jeanerette.
He was the trumpet section leader and band captain during his senior year. He also held the first chair position for trumpet in the Iberia Parish Honor Band and was elected as Bandsman of the Year.
He has received scholarships including Entre Nous Clio and Rewards for Success.
After graduation, LaJaunie plans to attend Southern University at Baton Rouge and major in music education.
Smith is the daughter of Demetra Smith from Jeanerette.
Smith was named Jeanerette High School’s Student of the Year and made her debut with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She also served as president of the Beta Club and LA Gear Up.
She has been awarded scholarships, including the Xavier Merit Based Scholarship, Arthur L. Verret Memorial Scholarship and numerous Delta Sigma Theta scholastic awards.
After graduation, Smith plans to attend Xavier University of Louisiana and major in biology / pre-med.
