Loreauville High to graduate 87 Tuesday

LOREAUVILLE — The Loreauville High School Class of 2015 is set to celebrate its 87 graduates at ceremonies set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the school’s gymnasium.

Leading the seniors will be four valedictorians, Ellen Barras, Deja Hebert, Matthew Lissard and Marayja Vital, all of whom earned a 4.0 grade point average.

Barras is the daughter of Jennifer Barras and Robert Barras, both of New Iberia.

In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society and National Beta Club.

Awards she has received include the President’s Award for Educational Excellence (three years), World Geography Award, Mathematics Award in ninth and 11th grades, English II and English III awards, Science Award in 11th grade. In the UL Literary Rally, she placed second in Algebra, fourth in Geometry, third in English II, second in Chemistry and third in Physics. She also has received the LSU Academic Scholars Resident Award and Chancellor’s Student Aid Program.

After graduation, Barras plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in chemistry.

Hebert is the daughter of Keith Hebert of New Iberia and Tiya Todd of Washington, North Carolina.

During high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Beta Club, Chapel Club and Student Council.

She has received the Principal’s Award, President’s Award, Physical Science Award, UL Lafayette District Rally Award and Student of the Year Award.

In addition to TOPS, she is recipient of an Honors Scholarship.

After graduation, Hebert plans to attend Louisiana State University and study chemistry/pre-med with hopes of one day becoming a pediatrician.

Lissard is the son of Ken and Christine Lissard of New Iberia.

While in high school, he was a member of the varsity baseball team and National Honor Society.

He was an academic letter recipient all four years, awarded Math Medals in ninth, 10th and 11th grades, DAR Award for Excellence in American History, American History Medal, President’s Award for Educational Excellence. He also attended the District Literary Rally and placed in World Geography, Algebra II and Calculus II. He also made the Varsity Baseball All District First Team in 2013 and 2014 and selected Best of the Teche in Baseball honorable mention in 2013 and First Team in 2014 and awarded the LHSAA Academic All State Composite Team. In addition to TOPS, he also was awarded the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Outstanding Student Scholarship, Louisiana Tech University Presidential Scholarship and the Tulane University Premier Scholar Award and Legislative Scholarship.

After graduation, Lissard plans to attend Tulane University, but he has not yet selected a major.

Vital is the daughter of Passion Vital of New Iberia and Marvin Vital of Loreauville.

During her high school years, she was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, Chapel Club and participated in the school play.

She has received academic honors, was on the honor roll and received principal’s award. She also has received an academic scholarship from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

After graduation, Vital plans to attend UL Lafayette and major in computer engineering.
