NISH to graduate 332 in Thursday ceremony

New Iberia Senior High’s Class of 2015 seniors will turn their respective tassles around during the commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday inside the boys gymnasium at NISH.
Leading the 332 graduates will be 10 valedictorians. They are Sydni Barras, Kelly Marie Derise, Ethan George Frederick, Hollie Guidry, Breleigh Alyce Landry, Emily Langlinais, D’anna LeBlanc, Katelyn Marie Sumrall, Tatelyn Elizabeth Tauzin and Anna C. Villermin.
Barras, the daughter of Scott and Paula Barras of New Iberia, was involved with donations and volunteerism for Angel Paws, Jeans for Teens, SNAP, local food shelter and March of Dimes, plus packaged gift bags for children at Easter and Christmas. She was in BETA four years and on the Quiz Bowl Team as a junior and senior. She also was a four-year member of the Art Guild.
She was a straight-A student as a freshman, sophomore and junior and honorable mention in Les Jeune Spring Art Show, District Rally in Advanced Math and District Rally In Chemistry.
After graduation, Barras plans to attend LSU, then continue pursuit of a doctorate in biochemistry.
Derise is the daughter of Kevin and Alice Derise of New Iberia.
She was a student government representative and member of Spirit Committee and Key Club and National Honor Society (2013-2015), and co-president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also donated to and volunteered with Teens for Jeans and was active in the March of Dimes, Walk for Literacy and making of Easter baskets for children and collecting and wrapping children’s gifts for Christmas.
She was a member of the 2014 Homecoming Court, received the Principal’s Award and LHSAA Academic All-State Award. She was a varsity softball player four years and competed one year in varsity cross country. She was honorable mention on the 2013 Best of the Teche Softball Team.
After graduation, Derise plans to major in nursing — specializing in nurse anesthesia — at LSU.
Frederick, the son of Craig and Tracy Frederick of New Iberia, was a student government representative and member of the National Honor Society, Literary Rally Club and French Immersion Program at Université Sainte-Anne.
He was named NISH’s Outstanding Junior and was on the third-place state team for Science Olympiad and District Literary Rally in English, French and English II, and State Literary Rally in French II and English II. He was voted Most Intelligent in his class as a sophomore and junior.
Frederick will attend either the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana Tech University or Tulane University.
Guidry is the daughter of Charles and Lacey Guidry of New Iberia. She was active in NISH Chorus, NISH Musical and vice president two of her four years in BETA. She served on student government and was a member of the French Club, Art Guild, Voice of NISH and BETA Quiz Bowl as a captain.
She was recognized as most improved choir member and was an honor choir participant who sang in the District Chorus Solo Festival, District Chorus Ensemble Festival, State Chorus Solo Festival. She also was on the Principal’s List, NISH Rally Team — physical science, civics and French II, and was Student of the Month.
After graduation, Guidry plans to major in business at LSU. Her long-range goal is to graduate from law school.
Landry, the daughter of Reme and Karen Landry of Lydia, was co-captain on the NISH Cheer Team and member of BETA and Spirit Committee, as well as a representative of student government.
She was voted Most Likely to Succeed, Most Intelligent and Heart of the Squad on the NISH Cheer Team. She also was on the NISH Homecoming Court and the Principal’s List.
After graduation, Landry plans to major in nursing — specializing in neonatal care — at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Langlinais is the daughter of Kevin and Ashley Langlinais, was active in Jacket Assembly NISH varsity cheerleading, Spirit Committee and Key Club. She was Junior Class Vice President and Senior Class President and in the National Honor Society.
She was in the Jacket Assembly and was Sophomore Class President, Junior Class Vice President and Senior Class President and a member of the National Honor Society, Spirit Club, NISH Cheerleading Team and Key Club. She was named the NISH Student of the Year and earned the Principal’s Recognition Award for straight A’s.
Other awards included Most Dedicated Cheerleader, Heart of the Squad, Best All-Around Cheerleader and was voted Most Likely to Succeed Freshman Girl, Miss Sophomore and Miss Junior. She was the NISH Homecoming Queen in 2014.
After graduation, Langlinais plans to attend LSU, then attend LSU Medical School and dance as a Golden Girl.
LeBlanc, the daughter of Dean and Beverly LeBlanc, played on the NISH soccer team three years and volleyball team one year and was active in the 4-H Club — serving as secretary in 2012-13, BETA and student government. In 4-H, she won the blue ribbon for Soybean Illustrated Talk 2013 for Junior Leaders at LSU, blue ribbon for 4-H Sugar Cookery and red ribbon for 4-H Sugar Cookery and Old Masters Art Exhibit.
After graduation, LeBlanc plans to major in both accounting and mechanical engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Sumrall is the daughter of Gerald Sumrall and Linda Henderson. She had memberships in Key Club, Spirit Committee, National Honor Society and BETA.
She was on the A/B honor roll and had perfect attendance her freshman year.
After graduation, Sumrall plans to major in business education at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Tauzin, the daughter of Todd and Tina Tauzin of New Iberia, was active in cheerleading her freshman year and a member of the National Honor Society as a junior and senior.
She earned a 4.0 GPA for 12 consecutive years.
After graduation, Tauzin plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then continue her education — focusing on dental hygiene — at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
Villermin is the daughter of Eric and Pegge Villermin of New Iberia. She played on the volleyball one season and for four seasons on the softball team at NISH. She also ran cross country one year.
Extracurricular activities also included memberships in BETA, National Honor Society, AHEC of a Summer, Spirit Committee and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was involved with National Honor Society Services from 2013-2015.
She also collected and wrapped Christmas gifts for children, was involved in a canned good collection for the U.S. Army and created Easter baskets for children.
Awards include Geometry Rally, all-A’s and Outstanding Junior.
After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in accounting. She is hopeful of becoming a CPA.
