West St. Mary ceremony set for 67 on Thursday

BALDWIN — Sixty-seven West St. Mary High School seniors will graduate at commencement ceremonies set for 6 p.m. Thursday.

Leading the graduates will be six who have earned summa cum laude status, meaning their grade point average has is between 3.75 and 4.0: Garrett Bonin, Elijah Dupre, Emily Gaudet, Collean Hebert, Kayla Richardson and J’Andrenique Taylor.

West St. Mary High has 28 honor graduates in all, seven magna cum laude (a GPA between 3.5 and 3.7499) and 15 cum laude (a GPA between 3.0 and 3.499).

Bonin, the son of Jude and Patrice Bonin, graduates with a 4.0 GPA.

He was a member of the National Honors Society, literary rally team, Renaissance, French club, the Gifted and Talented Program, and an FFA officer for three years. He was the catcher for the WSM baseball team for four years and received the First Team All-State Academic Award.

After graduation, Bonin plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and major in petroleum engineering.

Dupre, the son of Scott and Andrea Dupre, graduates with a 3.97 GPA.

He was an active member of the National Honors Society, FFA, the Literary Rally Team and French Club. He was vice president of FFA for two years. He was WSM’s baseball team’s second baseman for three years and shortstop for his senior year.

After graduation, Dupre plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to major in mechanical engineering.

Gaudet, the daughter of Joan and Charles Gaudet, will graduate with a 3.93 GPA.

During her time at West St. Mary, she was an active member of the Yearbook Committee for four years. She was also a member of the French Club, National Honor Society, Literary Rally for four years and a Student of the Year nominee.

After graduation, Dupre plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to major in business and minor in photography. She plans to open her own photography studio.

Hebert, the daughter of Audra and Gerard Hebert, graduates with a 4.0 GPA.

She was a member of the French Club, National Honor Society, Rotary Club and Literary Rally Team. She also participated in the talented art and talented theater programs all four years of high school. Through the art program, she has participated in, and won many awards, in parish- and state-wide art shows.

After graduation, Hebert plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in psychology. While attending college, she also will take ROTC classes for the U.S. Air Force. After her time at LSU, she hopes to become a therapist in the Air Force to help soldiers with post-traumatic stress.

Richardson, the daughter of Todd and Tamika Carter, is graduating with a GPA of 3.85.

At WSM, she was a cheerleader for three years and an active member of the French Club, 4-H, Renaissance Club and National Honors Society.

After graduation, Richardson plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in biochemistry.

Taylor, the daughter of Cassandra Brown of Baldwin, graduates with a 3.88 GPA.

She was junior class parliamentarian, senior class vice president, a member of the varsity basketball team for two years, dance team for two years, and an active member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Literary Rally Team, FBLA, French Club, Renaissance, Yearbook Club, and was a Student of the Year nominee.

After graduation, plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in Business Management with an Entrepreneurial Concentration. After college, Taylor plans to own her own pastry shop and to build a Lupus Awareness Foundation.
