Miguez seeks re-election to District 49 seat

State Representative Blake Miguez has announced his candidacy for re-election to represent District 49 in the state House of Representatives.

The Republican political newcomer was elected in February during a special election after former state Rep. Simone Champagne resigned. Though he was new to state government, Miguez was noted for his confidence and ability to move bills through the Legislature.

“The support I have received from the community has been overwhelming and I’m excited about the opportunity to continue serving the families and businesses of District 49,” Miguez said in a prepared statement. “Working with a new governor, I believe we can start moving our state forward and set South Louisiana up for long-term success.”

Miguez has gained the endorsement of WESTPAC, a branch of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, due to his continual efforts to improve the state’s business climate and opposition of higher taxes.

“Representative Miguez has proven himself to be a trusted friend for business at the capitol. His high rating in his first year with LABI is a testament to his commitment to pro-growth policies,” WESTPAC chairman Charles Trent said, according to the statment.
