Ruby Conner Armstead

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Ruby C. Armstead, 65, the former Ruby Conner, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at St. Edward Catholic Church, New Iberia, with Fr. Thomas Vu as celebrant.

She will await the resurrection at Belle Congregational Cemetery, Belle Place.

A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday at the funeral home 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a Rosary recited at 9 a.m.

A native and resident of New Iberia, she passed away at 4:29 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at AMG Specialty Hospital Park Place, Lafayette.

She was a faithful member of St. Edward Catholic Church and a graduate of Jonas Henderson High School.

She leaves to cherish her memory and in God’s care her husband of 20 years, Lloyd Armstead Sr.; their children Carletta Conner of New Iberia, Yolanda Simon (Efron) of Lake Charles, Shedrick Ward of Dallas, Shawnderic L. Conner and Brandon Armstead, both of New Iberia, Kevin Armstead, Lloyd Armstead Jr., Gracie Derouen (Kenneth), Ken L. Vital and Kimberly Vital Hawkins (Avery), all of New Iberia; two brothers James Preston Jr. (Betty) of Mesa, Arizona, and John Nelson Conner of New Iberia; sisters Gloria Barlow of Jeanerette, Elva Ford and Venadean Polk (Wilfred) of Olivier. She had 12 grandchildren, three of which she held an extra special bond Shawnderick Jr., JaBrianne and Bryleigh; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

She now joins in glory with her parents, Preston James Conner and Whilimena Boutte Conner; and one sister Louella Carvin.

Active pallbearers will be Terrence Polk, Neal Armstead, Ray Barlow, Kern Bernard, Jules Ford and Lionel Armstead Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Herman Mitchell, Don Vital, John Conner Jr., Burnell Nora, Preston Conner Jr., Wilfred Polk, Jermaine Pomier and Al Green.

Final arrangements entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Home, 609 W. Admiral Doyle Drive, New Iberia.
