ESA, Highland third in pool play; SMSH second

CADE — The first day of ESA’s annual Spooktacular Volleyball Tournament finished with the host Lady Falcons and the Highland Baptist Lady Bears collectively going 0-4 while St. Martinville Senior High went 1-1.

ESA dropped games to Assumption (25-9, 25-12) and Rayne (19-25, 21-25) in its pool. Highland fell to Teurlings (25-12, 25-5) and Iota (18-25, 10-25) in pool play. SMSH lost to St. Thomas More (25-13, 26-24) but beat Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau (25-23, 25-12).

Individual results from the games were not available.

First day results from the tournament had STM winning Pool A with St. Martinville second and ASH third; Teurlings won Pool B with Iota second and Highland Baptist third; Assumption won Pool C with Rayne second and ESA third.

The rest of pool play continues today with pools D, E, F and G with games starting at 4 p.m. and concluding with 7 p.m. contests.

Saturday’s games at the tournament will consist of elimination games and the championhip games.

On Saturday, St. Martinville will play Iota at 9 a.m.; Highland Baptist will play Academy of the Sacred Heart at Noon and ESA will play the third place finisher of the pool consisting of St. Joseph’s Academy, Comeaux and Sam Houston at 1:30 p.m.

Delcambre 3, Catholic High 2

Delcambre improved to 9-20 overall with a non-district win over Catholic High on Wednesday, beating the Lady Panthers 21-25, 25-15, 27-29, 25-22, 15-13.

Jordan LeBlanc and Allison Broussard each had nine kills for DHS. LeBlanc also had four digs, two aces, an assist and a block. Broussard had five digs, an assist and two blocks.

Nicole Bouillion added six digs, five aces, 31 assists and four kills. Regan LeBlanc had four digs, an ace, an assist and seven kills; Asya Comeaux had two digs, an ace and four kills; Claire Olivier had three digs, four aces and two kills; Kessler Dooley had a dig; Kacie McDonald had three digs, an ace and five kills; and Alyssa Duhon had two digs and an assist.

Delcambre plays a home double-header with Terrebonne and Northside Christian starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
