FREETOWN — A home-going celebration will be held for Oakland Boyce Adams III, 42, at 11 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2015, at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 1, Freetown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Sanders of Summit, New Jersey, officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the church until time of funeral service.

The son of the Reverend Betty Livingston Adams, Ph.D., of Summit, New Jersey, and O.B. Adams Jr. of Slidell, Oakland Boyce Adams III received in 1994 a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, in addition to a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1998.

The Harvard-trained lawyer earned the distinction of having served as a congressional intern in Washington, D.C., and as a legal intern with the Appeals Bureau of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Oakland also served as president of the Board of Directors of The Williams Settlement Inc., a nonprofit corporation in West Monroe.

Oakland leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife, Dawn Adams; his daughters Tirzah Pranam Howard and Bethlehem Livingston Adams; his mother and father; maternal and paternal grandmothers, Mrs. Alice Simon Livingston of New Iberia, and Mrs. Mary Meadors Adams of West Monroe. In addition, he leaves to cherish his memory his mother-in-law Beulah M. Neyland; his father-in-law Milton Neyland Jr.; his sisters-in-law Sandra (Phil) Francis and Joycelyn Neyland of New Orleans and Tammy (Alonzo) Goines of Tucker, Georgia; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandfathers, the Reverend Theodore Livingston Sr. and Oakland B. Adams Sr.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be members of the immediate family.
