CHS holds off Jeanerette, 77-73

JEANERETTE — Chuck Bernard of Catholic High won the personal scoring battle with Jeanerette’s Tyrese Batiste, and the Panthers held on for a 77-73 win over the Tigers Friday in a District 6-2A boys’ basketball game.

Bernard finished with 30 points, going 11-for-15 at the foul line and hitting one 3-pointer to outpace Batiste, who had five 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 at the line in scoring 27 points for Jeanerette.

Both players had two teammates also scoring in double figures on the night.

Jeremy Touchet added 21 points for the Panthers, including three 3-point baskets, and Semaj Flugence had 11 points with one 3-pointer. CHS, which improved to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in district, hit six 3-pointers in all.

Edward Jordan had 17 points for Jeanerette, including five 3-point baskets, and Jahori Johnlewis had 15 points with a 3-pointer and a 2-for-2 free throw effort. The Tigers finished with 12 treys.

CHS built a big 26-14 lead after one quarter but Jeanerette closed to within 40-39 at halftime. CHS extended its lead to 57-52 after three quarters.

Jeanerette (7-10, 0-1) travels to Delcambre Tuesday while CHS visits E.D. White for a non-district game in Thibodaux.

David Thibodaux 64, Loreauville 47

LAFAYETTE — David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy outscored Loreauville 39-17 in the second half to beat the Tigers in a non-district basketball game Friday.

Loreauville led 13-10 after one quarter but trailed 25-24 at halftime.

Je’Dan Jacob led LHS with 20 points. Ronnie Jeanlouis had 10 and Joshua Simon added 9.

Travont’e Sam and Najja Engleton had 13 points each for David Thibodaux and Bruno Tyree had 12.

Centerville 62, Vermilion Catholic 44

CENTERVILLE — Lance Howard had 25 points to help Centerville improve to 5-1 in District 7-A with a win over Vermilion Catholic on Friday.

Howard had three 3-pointers. Marquis Straw–der added 10 points and Jayvien Thomas had 9 for the Bulldogs (8-6 overall).

Nick Fletcher led VC (9-5, 3-3) with 16 points. Trevian Lane added 8 and JT Lege had 7.

Centerville led 19-8 after one quarter, 33-13 at halftime and 44-26 after three periods.

The Bulldogs play host to Highland Baptist Tuesday.
