A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for Nancy Broussard, 69, who passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016, in Loreauville.

Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.

The Rev. Mario Romero will be the celebrant.

A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. on Monday. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Loreauville, Nancy was born on October 15, 1946, to Cline and Evelyn Chesson Broussard. She had worked at Bi-Lo’s and at one time, along with her uncle Laurent Bonin, she owned her own grocery store. Nancy also worked with her husband, Michael, at Western Auto and was a caregiver for the elderly. From 1995 until 2014 she cared for physically and mentally challenged people and was a coach for Verna’s Very Special Bowling for Challenged Athletes. Nancy was a former cub scout leader for her son Pete and she was also a girl scout leader for her daughter Michelle. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and was also a religion teacher.

Nancy had a kind and gentle spirit. She believed deeply in prayer and in God. Michael, her children and her family were most important. Her life was a reflection of what she believed. Nancy was blessed to have a close group of friends who treated her with great kindness and adopted her as a member of their family.

Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Michael Broussard, of Loreauville; daughters Laurie Ann Broussard and boyfriend Todd Durham of New Iberia, Michelle Broussard and boyfriend Eunice Gilbert of Loreauville; son Pete Broussard and wife, Brandy, of New Iberia; son-in-law Greg Walet of Loreauville; grandchildren Rachelle Walet, Kassidy Walet, Joshua Olivier, Timothy Olivier, Courtenay Yeager, Victoria Broussard, Kennedi Broussard, Pearson Broussard, Mia Jolivette and Miles Jolivette; great-grandson Aaron Olivier; brothers Paul Broussard and wife, Geraldine, of New Iberia, Darryl Broussard and wife, Pamela, of Seaford, Delaware, Ted Broussard and partner John Wiesman of Tacoma, Washington, Eddie Broussard and partner Ron Matranga of Riverside, California.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by a daughter Evelyn Walet; grandson Jacob Olivier; mother-in-law Thelma Abshire Broussard; brother-in-law Gerald Broussard; grandparents, Amar & Ovelia Istre Broussard, and Enice & Ledia Vice Chesson.

Pallbearers will be Pete Broussard, Miles Jolivette, Paul Broussard, Ted Broussard, Darryl Broussard and Eddie Broussard.
