Edward Collins Blaise Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Edward Collins Blaise Sr., 91, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at St. Edward Roman Catholic Church in New Iberia. Father Thomas Vu will officiate the services. Interment will be in the St. Edward Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Journet & Bolden Funeral Home, 711 S. Corinne St., New Iberia on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the funeral home from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Blaise died on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 6:40 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mr. Blaise was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. He owned and operated Blaise’s Barbershop for 45 years. He was a faithful member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. Mr. Blaise was also a 50-year member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver, St. Edward Council #63, the American Legion, Post 0533, and the Buddies Social Club.

He leaves to cherish his memories Edward (Carol) Blaise Jr. of Lafayette; Robert (Michelle) Blaise Sr. of New Iberia; Rorey Blaise of Panama City Beach, Florida; Miriam (Sherman) Smith of Broussard; Monica (Whalen) Gibbs of Lafayette; Margaret (Joseph) DeClouette of Lake Charles; and Marleen Blaise of New Iberia; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Blase of New Orleans; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenza Chretien Blaise and Douglas Joseph Blaise Sr.; his wife, Mary Louise Gray Blaise; his son, Kirk D. Blaise; his great-grandsons, Markell Gregoire, Scere Blaise, and Denim Blaise; his siblings, Sister Mary Gervase (Pansy Blaise), Louis J. Blase Sr., Anna Blaise Kerlegon, Joseph D. Blaise Sr. and John M. Blaise Sr.

The active pallbearers will be the members of the Knights of St. Peter Claver, St. Edward Council 63. The honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Douglas Blaise Jr., Louis Blase Jr., Joseph DeClouette, Whalen Gibbs Jr., Anthony Kerlegon and Sherman Smith Sr.
