Gladys Gertrude Jeanminette was born November 23, 1930 in Grand Marais to the late Ezube Jeanminette and the late Elvina Olivier Jeanminette, and passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Maison Teche Nursing Center.

Gladys attended and graduated from the Southern School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge.  She was one of the first students to attend class there in 1938 and was their first Homecoming Queen.  It was at this school that Gladys learned her trade as a seamstress and became a professional tailor, having worked in San Francisco.  When she returned to her home state of Louisiana, she took on the role of caring for her mother and father.   Some of Gladys’ hobbies included sewing, cooking and baking.  It was said that she made the best candy and baked some of the best biscuits around.

Her beautiful smile and generous heart will be missed dearly and her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her sisters and brother, Anna Mae Olivier, Ernest Jeanminette and Barbara Jeanminette; her nieces and nephews, Virginia Ferrigno, Kurt Jeanminette, Arlene Olivier (her only Godchild), Joseph Arthulo Olivier, Amelia Grogan, Arnell Olivier, Todd Jeanminette, Dana Coleman and Kendall Jeanminette; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gabriel Jeanminette; a nephew, Arthur Olivier Jr.; and nieces, Alicia Olivier and Angel Olivier.

Serving as pallbearers are Kendall Jeanminette, Jordan Grogan, Brandon Olivier, Peter “Ollie” Olivier, Arnell Olivier and Joseph Arthulo Olivier.
