DELCAMBRE — Wednesday’s swearing in of Delcambre Mayor Pam Blakely was not only notable because it marked the town’s first new mayor in more than 20 years, but also because she is the first woman serving in the position.
More than 50 people packed into Delcambre Town Hall’s small council room to witness the occasion. Along with Blakely, Madison Saunier, Timothy Derise, Sarah Trahan and Donald Martin were sworn in to serve on the Board of Aldermen, as well as Delcambre Chief of Police James Broussard. Vermilion Parish Clerk of Court Diane Meaux Broussard administered the oath of office to all public officials.
Blakely, who operates a beauty salon in Delcambre, ousted former Mayor Carol Broussard in last year’s election. Broussard served as the town’s mayor for 25 years.
Iberia Parish Clerk of Court Mike Thibodeaux also attended to assist the newly sworn-in council in signing the proper documents.
