Westgate stops Breaux Bridge

- Anachack Phomthirath (3) led three Westgate players in double-figure scoring as the Tigers beat Breaux Bridge Tuesday to stay unbeaten in District 5-4A.
Anachack Phomthirath led a trio of Westgate players in double-figure scoring to help the Tigers stay unbeaten in District 5-4A with a 52-40 win over Breaux Bridge Tuesday.
Phomthirath had 11 points and Deandre Francis and Eron Phillips each had 10 points.
The Tigers improved to 16-6 overall and 2-0 in district, tied with St. Martinville Senior High for first place.
The two teams meet Friday at Westgate with first place on the line.
WHS held a slim 7-6 lead after the first quarter and a 25-22 lead at the break.
In the second half however, six different Westgate players scored at least 2 points as the Tigers outscored Breaux Bridge 13-6 in the period to take a 38-28 lead and then WHS pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win.
Jaylon Wiltz led BBHS (11-14, 0-3) with 12 points.
Jeanerette 71, Delcambre 55
JEANERETTE — Shonathon Sparrow had 18 points as Jeanerette blew past Delcambre in District 6-2A boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
Tyrese Batiste added 11 and Toddrick Paul had 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Jeanerette (14-8, 1-1) has won two of its last three games after suffering through a 15 game losing streak.
Against Delcambre, the Tigers bolted out to a 24-10 first quarter lead.
Colt Dooley led the Panthers (5-20, 0-3) with 14 points, Cole Delcambre added 11 and Zeb Berggren added 10.
Jeanerette plays host to Loreauville Friday, Delcambre travels to Catholic High.
ESA 69, Midland 45
MIDLAND — Tucker Arkin had a game-high 16 points as ESA rebounded from a loss to Hathaway Friday to beat long-time rival Midland Tuesday in District 6-B play.
Mason Shuffler and Cole Breaux each had 11 points.
The Falcons roared out to a 27-7 first quarter lead and cruised to the 24-point win to improve to 22-9 overall and 3-1 in district.
Eight different players scored at least 2 points for ESA, which led by as many as 33 points.
Ty Breaux led Midland (8-19, 1-3) with 15 points.
ESA plays host to Lacassine Friday to start the second round of district play.
E.D. White 62, Erath 19
THIBODAUX — Kevin Johnson had 24 points as E.D. White blew past Erath Tuesday in a District 8-3A game.
The Cardinals (11-8, 4-2) jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead and extended it to 33-12 at halftime.
Bren Faulk led Erath with 6 points.
The Bobcats (4-18, 1-5) play host to North Vermilion Friday.
In other games involving Teche Area teams, Patterson beat Franklin 49-36 in District 8-3A; West St. Mary beat Loreauville 62-42 in District 6-2A and Hanson beat Gueydan 53-34 in District 7-A.

Girls
Centerville 45, Highland Baptist 42
Rylie Candella had a game-high 22 points as Centerville survived a fourth quarter comeback from Highland Baptist and beat the Lady Bears Tuesday in a District 7-A girls’ game.
Alyrria Austin added 13 and Hailey McDaniel chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Bulldogs led 35-21 after three quarters and held off a late charge for the win.
Camryn Sensley led Highland with 16 points and Blair Abshire added 11. Centerville (5-9, 2-7) travels to Gueydan Friday. HBCS (6-12, 1-8) plays host to Vermilion Catholic Friday.
Gueydan 35, Hanson 29
GUEYDAN — The Gueydan Honey Bears rallied from a 7-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Hanson Tuesday in District 7-A action.
Gueydan trailed 25-18 after three quarters, then outscored the Lady Tigers 17-4 in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback win.
Individual statistics for GHS (19-8, 8-1) were not available.
Casey Fitzgerald led Hanson with 17 points and Carlie Pellerin added 8 points.
The Lady Tigers (18-5, 5-4) travel to Ascension Episcopal Friday.
Patterson 39, Franklin 31
PATTERSON — Despite a 14 point effort from Kaira Butler, Franklin Senior High dropped a District 8-3A decision to Patterson Tuesday.
Sta’Trail Butler added 10 for the Lady Hornets, who fell to 10-12 overall and 3-4 in district.
Individual statistics for Patterson (4-12, 1-7) were not available.
Franklin plays host to Berwick Friday.
E.D. White 55, Erath 47
THIBODAUX — Michae Jones had 20 points as E.D. White held off a fourth quarter surge from Erath in District 8-3A play.
Elli Brady added 12 for the Lady Cardinals, who stayed perfect in district (8-0) and improved to 21-1 overall.
Monette Bolden had a game-high 31 points for the Lady Bobcats (12-7, 5-3), who play host to North Vermilion Friday. EHS trimmed a 10-point deficit to 1 point before EDW pulled away.
In other girls games Tuesday, St. Martinville beat Abbeville 49-12 in District 5-4A; Loreauville beat West St. Mary 38-31 in District 6-2A and there was no reported score for Delcambre at Jeanerette and Westgate at Breaux Bridge.
Individual results from the other games were not reported to The Daily Iberian.
