Kaplan wins Cashen, Koenig titles; Erath boys, Delcambre girls second

Delcambre teammates Heidi Menier and Cheyenne Dunn lead the pack in the 800 meter run at the Koenig Relays held Friday at Delcambre's Panther Stadium.

DELCAMBRE — Kaplan swept the team titles at the Cashen and Koenig Relays held Friday at Delcambre High School, with Erath finishing second in the boys’ meet (Cashen Relays) and Delcambre finishing second in the girls’ Koenig Relays.

Kaplan captured two of the three individual honors for the Koenig Relays. Tori Riggs was named Outstanding Track Performer after winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes in 12.28 and 25.64 seconds, respectively. Tyra Francis was named Outstanding Field Performer after winning the shot put (34 feet, 10 inches) and placing second in the discus (98-1). Delcambre’s Jordan LeBlanc was the overall Outstanding Performer after winning the triple jump (35-11), placing second in the high jump (4-10) and long jump (15-11) and running a leg on the first-place 4×400 relay. Chloe Hernandez, Hannah Hebert and Heidi Menier helped DHS win the relay in 4:22.63.

Kaplan won the girls’ title with 119 points to Delcambre’s 98.5. Terrebonne was third (74.5), followed by North Vermilion (73), Erath (68), Abbeville (50), Ascension Episcopal (24), Gueydan (19), Jeanerette (17), J.S. Clark (11) and Loreauville (4).

Kaplan won the boys’ title with 159 points, followed by Erath with 96. Ascension Episcopal was third with 77, followed by Highland Baptist (59), Abbeville (56), J.S. Clark (34), North Vermilion (27), Delcambre (26), Loreauville (11), Jeanerette (8) and Gueydan (2).

Jerron Greene of J.S. Clark was Outstanding Field Performer after winning the high jump at 6 feet, the long jump at 22-2 and the triple jump at 42-2. Adam Courville of Kaplan and Zach Ronquillo of Ascension Episcopal shared Outstanding Track honors. Courville won the 400 (52.72) and 800 (2:02.06) and Ronquillo won the 200 (22.59) and was second in the 100 (10.75). Chandler Mixon of Highland Baptist was the Outstanding Performer after he and finished second in the long jump (21-3) and 400 meter run (52.80) and third in the discus (124-3) and 100 meter dash (10.78).

Cashen Relays

Erath got three first-place finishes to help the Bobcats finish second in the team standings.

Ethan Suire won the 1,600 meter run in 4:51.44 and teammate Blaze Bright was second (4:58.68). Cameron Carpenter won the 3,200 (10:47.81) and Bright was second (10:49.22). Suire also finished second in the 800 (2:06.78). Elijah Mitchell won the shot put (47-2) for the Bobcats and Jax Harrington was second in the javelin (143-6). Payne Touchet of EHS was second in the pole vault at 11 feet.

The Bobcats also had a third-place finish in the 4×100 (44.95).

Highland got a boost from Ray Johnson Jr., who won the 100 meter dash in 10.73 seconds and was second in the 200 in 22.64. HBCS was third in the 4×200 (1:34.21). Mekel Espinoza was third in the high jump (5-10).

For Delcambre, Caden Boudreaux finished third in the pole vault at 9-6 and Cole Delcambre was third in the javelin (139-6). The Panthers also finished third in the 4×400 (3:47.03).

Loreavuille claimed second in the 4×200 (1:34.01).

Koenig Relays

In addition to LeBlanc’s Outstanding Performer efforts, Delcambre got a win in the 800 from Heidi Menier (2:41.14) with Cheyenne Dunn second (2:43.16). Hannah Hebert was second in the 300 hurdles (50.30) and third in the 100 hurdles (16.62). Hernandez also finished third in the shot put (98-1). Adrienne Williams was third in the long jump (15-3).

Troynae Walker won the 100 hurdles for Erath in 14.48 seconds and the high jump at 4-10. Monette Bolden won the long jump for EHS at 17-6. Erath also placed second in the 4×200 (1:52.52) and third in the 4×100 (51.71) and 4×400 (4:40.45).
