A Home-going celebration will be held for Christine J. Fulgence, 47, the former Christine Jean-Batiste, at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Fondal Sr. officiating.

She will await the resurrection at Mount Zion Baptist Cemetery Petit Anse.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church until time of service.

A resident of New Iberia, she passed away at 2:15 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family.

During her lifetime, Christine worked with her husband in their family owned business, Hank’s Record Shop. While working in the family business, Christine decided on and sought after a different career path. Soon thereafter, she was offered a position at Creative Learning Center at Highland Baptist of New Iberia as a paraprofessional and then later lead teacher.

After working at Creative Learning Center for an extended period, Christine interrupted her employment to pursue her educational goal by attending SLCC, working towards a degree in Business Technology.

Christine accepted the gift of salvation early in her membership with West End Bibleway Christian Fellowship Church. During her time there, she served in the following ministries — choir, VBS volunteer and the marriage ministry. After 17 years of service, Christine and her husband were led to start New Hope Christian Fellowship Church. She welcomed her role as First Lady, providing support to her husband, encouragement, emotional support and a sympathetic ear to each parishioner as situations warranted. In addition to this, Christine operated as a prayer warrior, standing in the gap for the concerns of others.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband of eighteen years, Pastor Bradley Fulgence of New Iberia; two beautiful and intelligent daughters, Destinique Zhane and Kaleiah Nicole Fulgence of New Iberia; her father, Michael Jean-Batiste Sr. of Cade; seven very supportive siblings — five brothers, Michael (Lucy) Jean-Batiste Jr. of New Iberia, David P. Jean-Batiste of Lafayette, Curtis Jean-Batiste of Houston, Brandon Jean-Batiste of Cade and Troy (Angela) Jean-Batiste of Parks; two sisters, Charlene M. Davis and Darlene M. Jean-Batiste, both of New Iberia; her faithful mother-in-law, Velma Fulgence of New Iberia; two loving sisters-in-law, Tabaki (Damian) Placide of Dallas and Lovelta (Adam) Alexander of New Iberia; one helpful brother-in-law, Brian (Lisa) Fulgence of Dallas; one godchild, Leeatra Davis of New Iberia; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended and spiritual family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Ethel Mae B. Jean-Batiste; her caring brother Terrance Jean-Batiste; her kind father-in-law Louis Edward Fulgence; her maternal grandparents, Clarence and Emma Pradia Broussard Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Peter and Enolia Jacquet Jean-Batiste Sr.

Active pallbearers will be Michael Jean-Batiste, David P. Jean-Batiste, Brandon Jean-Batiste, Patrick Steward, Charles Kelegon and Leeande Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Jean-Batiste, Michael Jean-Batiste Sr., Brian Fulgence, Clarence Broussard Jr., Anthony Green, Peter Jean-Batiste Jr. and Curtis Jean-Batiste.
