When 3-year-old Aline Gachassin wanted to put a lemonade stand for her neighbors on Briarwood Drive, her parents, Warren and Katley, decided to use it as an opportunity for a good cause.

Hundreds drove by the family’s house in the heat Saturday morning for a cup of lemonade, with donations going to St. Francis Diner. Those visitors included New Iberia Mayor Freddie DeCourt and Iberia Parish Council members.

Warren Gachassin said $1,950 was collected for the nonprofit that distributes food to the needy. Katley Gachassin said the event was first of future lemonade stands that would go toward worthy local causes.
